Washington Post Columnist David Ignatius Joins Aurora Prize Selection Committee

In his new role, Ignatius will help identify and select modern-day heroes who risk their own lives to save others from conflicts and atrocities worldwide. The global humanitarian award grants a 1 million dollar prize to such extraordinary individuals.

A History of Collaboration

The veteran journalist has been a steadfast supporter of the humanitarian initiative since its inception in 2016. Over the years, he has hosted multiple award ceremonies and moderated high-level discussions focusing on global humanitarian crises. According to Noubar Afeyan, Co-Founder of the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative, Ignatius brings decades of invaluable frontline reporting experience from some of the world's most volatile regions to the committee.

"It is a privilege to welcome him to this work and to be guided by his judgment toward those whose courage must be recognized and valued," stated Lord Ara Darzi, Chair of the Aurora Prize Selection Committee.

Distinguished Journalism Career

David Ignatius has been an influential voice covering foreign policy since 1998 and previously served as the executive editor of the International Herald Tribune in Paris. In 2018, his exceptional reporting earned him a spot as a Pulitzer Prize finalist in the Public Service category. Throughout his distinguished career, the journalist has also been honored with the French government's Legion of Honor, as well as the prestigious Gerald Loeb and George Polk awards.
