Armenia Remains a Safe Country Amid Dropping Crime Rates, Says Police Chief

According to the police data for the first half of the year, Armenia has recorded a decline in the overall number of offenses. Police Chief Kamo Tsutsulyan stated that the country is currently considered safe when evaluating the general crime rate and the severity of offenses.

Statistical data and declining crime rates

The head of the law enforcement agency highlighted several key indicators demonstrating a decrease in specific types of criminal activity:

• The total number of registered crimes dropped by 65 compared to the previous reporting period.
• There was no increase in homicides, with a total of 20 cases recorded.
• Offenses related to illicit drug trafficking decreased by 196.

Road safety and ongoing challenges

In addition to the drop in criminal offenses, improvements have also been noted in road safety. Statistics show that the number of fatalities resulting from traffic accidents has steadily decreased over recent years.

Despite these positive trends, the Armenian law enforcement system still faces significant challenges. The Police Chief emphasized that combating the influence of the criminal subculture remains among the agency's primary priorities and biggest hurdles.
