UK Ambassador Discusses Domestic Politics with Armenia's Parliamentary Opposition

Alexandra Cole, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Armenia, held a series of meetings with representatives of the opposition forces in the National Assembly. According to the parliament's press service, the discussions focused on domestic political developments and exploring avenues for broader bilateral cooperation.

Meeting with the "Powerful Armenia" Faction

The Ambassador met with Narek Karapetyan, head of the largest opposition faction, "Powerful Armenia," and Aram Vardevanyan, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, to congratulate them on their election to these posts. During the meeting, Karapetyan briefed the British diplomat on the current political climate in the country and the ongoing work of the legislature.

The Armenian lawmakers emphasized the importance of advancing cooperation between Armenia and the United Kingdom. The key topics of their discussion included:

• challenges and underlying issues within the judicial system,
• the urgent need to develop and strengthen the national education system.

Discussions with the "Armenia" Faction

Later that same day, Ambassador Cole met with Anna Grigoryan, head of the "Armenia" opposition faction. The parliamentarian highlighted the necessity of maintaining multifaceted cooperation with the UK in various formats.

Grigoryan shared her assessments regarding post-election developments and the evolving relationship between the ruling government and the opposition in the newly formed parliament. The two sides also exchanged views on fostering partnerships across various sectors.
