Armenia and EU Strengthen Ties: Lilit Makunts Meets with EU Mission Head Cosmin Dinescu

Within the framework of ongoing cooperation between the Government of Armenia and the European Union, Lilit Makunts, Head of the Prime Minister's Staff, hosted Cosmin Dinescu, the Head of the EU Partnership Mission. Makunts welcomed the official launch of the mission's activities, placing special emphasis on European support aimed at strengthening Armenia's state institutions.

Priorities of Bilateral Cooperation

During the meeting, the primary focus was on the tasks to be carried out under the mission's mandate. The parties exchanged views on the systematic involvement of relevant state bodies and the development of their institutional capacities. As reported by Mediamax, citing the government's press service, the Head of the Staff emphasized:

"The priorities of cooperation within the framework of the mission's mandate were discussed."

Objectives of the New EU Mission in Armenia

Appointed by the European Council in June, the civilian advisory mission led by Cosmin Dinescu aims to enhance Armenia's resilience against hybrid threats. Operating under the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), the mission's primary targets include:

• developing resilience and crisis management capabilities,
• combating cyberattacks,
• countering foreign information manipulation and illicit financial flows.

According to Armenpress, the mission officially commenced its work on July 13, 2026, following a direct request from the Armenian government. It represents a key component of the European Union's broader strategy to provide both short-term and long-term support, facilitating the development of the country's institutional capacities amidst increasingly complex regional challenges.
